David Bowes

David Bowes is deeply honoured to be selected as the Reform UK candidate for Whitby and Scarborough in the upcoming General Election. His longstanding ties to the area reflect his strong dedication to the community he proudly calls home.

A Heritage of Service and Commitment

David’s connection to Whitby and Scarborough is woven through generations of family history. His great-great-grandfather served as both an Inspector in the Scarborough Police Force and as Mace Bearer for the Scarborough and Whitby Corporation, earning a commendation upon his retirement in 1918. His grandfather, also born in Scarborough, worked as a Detective Sergeant with what later became North Yorkshire Police, while his father was born in Whitby. This legacy of service forms the bedrock of David’s dedication to the community.

Professional Accomplishments and Local Dedication

Professionally, David has a background in pharmaceuticals, where he trained with French and Danish experts for over a decade. During this time, he played a pivotal role in a team that developed a life-saving adrenaline device in Sweden, now used worldwide. Building on this experience, he went on to found his own pharmaceutical company, which he successfully ran for eight years. More recently, David has turned his attention to renovating historic buildings to create family homes, a project he undertakes with great pride.

Preserving Heritage and Championing Change

Beyond his professional life, David has a keen interest in old maps, books, and local history. He enjoys roaming the moors and searching for fossils along the coast. While he admires the Victorian charm valued by his great-grandfather, he recognises that Whitby and Scarborough face mounting challenges. David believes that the current political system is failing to address core issues, such as rising taxes, NHS waiting times, immigration pressures, and increasing national debt.

Advocating for Practical Solutions

David is committed to tackling key local concerns, including fishing, housing, NHS provision, asylum and immigration, education, and crime. He aims to bring a practical, common-sense approach to local governance, moving away from the corporatism and self-interest that he feels have defined recent decades. His vision is for safe, well-maintained streets, efficient infrastructure, and policies that reflect the hard work of those who built the community.

Connecting with the Community

In the months ahead, David plans to canvass throughout Whitby and Scarborough, hoping to meet as many residents as possible. His focus is on listening to the voices of the community and advocating for positive, impactful change.
